| Nassau Young Republicans support gas tax cap | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| May 1, 2008 - Andrew Stream, president of the Nassau County Young Republicans, today came out in support of the movement to suspend the tax on gasoline during the summer holiday months. “This will come as a huge savings to motorists,” said Stream. “Cutting taxes is always a great way to help stimulate the economy. The government should do it more often.” The Republican-led state senate approved legislation on Wednesday that would eliminate the 32 cent per gallon tax on gasoline between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The bill now moves to the Democratic-led assembly. Stream continued, “I applaud our Republican senators for moving on this quickly. The average cost of gasoline is approaching $4 a gallon and something needs to be done sooner rather than later. I urge our federal lawmakers to work on this at their level of government as well.” |
